Savan, Sultry Seductress

Michael Caranci writes, “No matter which face the Savan shows you on a given day, the rainbow trout that call her home remain perhaps her finest feature. Their backs are darkly contrasted against their silvery sides, under-laid with the deep burnt red of their rainbow slash and decorated with countless black spots, offering the illusion of a brilliant sunset radiating off a pebble-lined mountain stream. But they aren’t just pretty to look at. They are big, too. The average trout on this river ranges from 18-24 inches, and bigger fish are hooked regularly. And these are some of the heaviest fish I’ve ever seen; we literally weighed a 24 inch fish at 8 pounds! I had the best morning of trout fishing of my life in one 200 yard stretch of river, landing 8 fish over 24 inches in a couple hours of fishing.
