DEFINE COOL

We are receiving emails from our readers on what they think is cool in fly fishing. If you haven’t read the piece, you can read it here. If you would like to chime in, just leave a comment.
Here is one from Jaime from Argentina.
What do you think is the coolest thing in fly fishing today?
I think it is the mere fact of doing something that has been written in our genes for the last 3000 years  (or more) and left aside in recent time’s living ways. I often can’t stop wondering about the effect changes in the last 200 years will affect mankind: Living in stories 100mts off the ground, sitting 12hour jobs for getting a good meal and sleep, traveling in hours what would have taken our ancestors at least several weeks.
Not too long ago, we had -in order to have a good meal and rest,- to negotiate our ways with nature; get something smaller than ourselves to eat and not get eaten by something -or someone- bigger in the process. So fly fishing today puts us there were we belong: Be it camping, walking up a trail, cooking in the dark, trying to get whatever we are fishing for, not getting any and then thinking quietly by the fire: Lucky I brought all this rice. – Jaime
